Bombing takes life of local in Afghanistan

Joseph Riley, 27, was killed as a soldier working in Afghanistan this week and his hometown is mourning his loss. Riley was a Grove City High School graduate and a member of their football team. CBS News has reported that a bomb went off on a bicycle in Kabul and Riley was among several soldiers to be killed. His family’s church issued a statement that read, “We are so heartbroken by this news. We are proud of our son and the sacrifice he made. He loved the Army and felt strongly that freedom is worth the fight. He loved Grove City, and we have already felt comforted by the love and support of this community, our many friends, and our beloved church family.” Following his high school career in Grover City he played football at Capital University before deciding to leave for the army.

Local killed in Afghanistan bombing

An Army soldier from Grove City was killed in a bombing in Afghanistan on Monday. Joseph Riley was in eastern Afghanistan during the attack and graduated from Grove City High School in 2005.
