Study: What kind of impact do refugees have on the city?
Thousands of refugees have nestled down in Columbus in the last ten years, adapting to the new city and a new place. Friday people across Columbus are gathering at Columbus State to talk and discuss what the economic impact is of those refugees finding new lives in the city. “With the increasing change in demographics in our nation, cities across America are establishing ‘welcoming initiatives,’ opening their doors and inviting immigrants and refugees to move to their cities to help support economic development and growth,” said Guadalupe Velasquez, coordinator of the city’s New American Initiative, the Dispatch reported. The study is looking to see how immigrants can boost the vitality of some neighborhoods and Community Research Partners are set to release their findings by October.
