Monday at 11 a.m. veterans gathered downtown to honor purple heart recipients before National Purple Heart Day Thursday. To celebrate, the city is hosting a Purple Heart 5k Friday for the first time ever and City Hall, LeVeque Tower, and the Columbus Commons will all have purple lights in honor of the celebration, according to NBC4. During the ceremony Monday morning, City of Columbus Veterans Committee and Councilmember Hearcel Craig dedicated the intersection of Front and Broad as Purple Heart Way.
