In 2010 Ian Burkhart had a diving accident that paralyzed him from the neck down, and in 2014, he was able to move his right hand again. Wexner Medical Center teamed with Battelle to give movement to someone who thought motion was no longer an option. Through a plug in his head and electrodes attached to his arm, he was able to give signals to his hand to move. The project and collaboration has been studying how to understand all of the impulses and signals the brain sends out and then how to translate them to the muscles through a computer program.
