Food pantries are going mobile with texting service

HandsOn Central Ohio will be bringing the residents of Franklinton, Linden, and the South Side a new way to fight hunger. Columbus City Council approved $135,349 for HandsOn Central Ohio to develop a system that lets residents text a new hotline number and link them to underused food pantries in their neighborhoods.

Under the new system, residents in the three neighborhoods will be able to text their name, address and need for food and HandsOn will schedule an appointment (a webchat option will also be available for anyone who wants to use the computer instead of their phone). The goal is to have the system running by early March.
