Could dropping casino revenues hurt the Blue Jackets?

When Nationwide Arena was bought for the Blue Jackets, the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority bought the arena from Nationwide and the state for $52 million which was (supposed to be) paid through loans. They haven’t made a payment on those loans yet, and that’s partly because of the lower than expected revenues at casinos. That revenue was intended to be what paid for the arena, not city taxes. If the casinos don’t pick it up, “the people who hold the loans, meaning Nationwide and the state of Ohio, would not be repaid, period,” Columbus City Auditor Hugh Dorrian told WOSU. He emphasized that this loan isn’t putting the city at jeopardy.
