AEP is appealing a ruling that allows net metering customers to be compensated. Net metering essentially allows customers who use alternative sources of energy (solar panels, turbines, etc.) to still connect with the city’s power grid. If their personal energy source produces more than they use it goes back onto the power grid, and customers are then they are compensated for that extra energy. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio ruled last year that would get the full value back for their extra electricity, which of course electricity companies are now challenging. AEP is appealing the decision to the Ohio Supreme Court, according to Columbus Business First.
