An OSU rechargeable battery could mean off the grid homes
Generally solar power means that a person can install solar panels on their home, car, etc. and then the power collected through those panels would get fed back into the main city’s power grid and that person then gets energy back from the city (at times getting a discounted rate). If you go off the grid, the energy from solar panels would feed straight into your home, but what about when the sun isn’t out? Where does it get stored? Batteries to store that collected energy are pricey especially once you’ve already tricked out your house with solar panels.
Ohio State said it has created the first ever rechargeable solar battery. With existing solar panel to battery systems, about 20 percent of the energy collected is lost in the transition, but with Ohio State’s battery, all of it is kept (or nearly all of it).
