Elderly and children escape weekend apartment fire

An elderly couple were some of those who were caught in a fire in an apartment complex in Canal Winchester early Sunday morning. Six units were evacuated, and six adults and 11 children were displaced after the incident. The elderly couple, both in their 60s were taken to the Wexner Medical Center for inhaling smoke and minor burns. When one of the residents woke to the smell of smoke, she called 911 and then began banging on her neighbor’s doors to wake them up, according to NBC4. “Any normal human being would definitely make sure that people are safe,” Susan Strickling said of alerting her neighbors. “It’s scary so you don’t want anybody to get hurt, in something like that. There are a lot of families that live here and anybody would’ve done that.” Fire investigators have said the fire appears to have been an accident.
