School lockdowns lifted after police searched for armed man

UPDATE: A tense situation wrapped around northeast Columbus and put five schools on lockdown Monday morning. What started it was when officers stopped a car at a traffic stop that matched the description of a robbery. From the traffic stop, a man and a woman were taken into custody, but a third ran away, according to ABC6. The man that ran also allegedly was carrying an AK-47, which prompted the school lockdowns. The SWAT team, police dogs and officers armed with rifles scoured the area along with an aerial search. Police believe someone could have given the suspect a ride away from the scene, the station reported.

UPDATE: Several Columbus schools were on lockdown Monday morning while police searched for an armed man, suspected in a robbery. The lockdowns have been lifted and schools are returning to a normal schedule, according to WTVN.

Elementary schools on lockdown, police searching for robber

Huy/A.G. Belles Elementary School, Medina Middle School, Linden STEM Academy and Oakland Park Alternative Elementary School are on lockdown after police began searching for a robbery suspect.

NBC4 has reported that administrators have said the lockdown is a precaution. Some reports have said there may be an armed man in the area. According to 10TV, the man could have an AK-47 and wearing a white shirt with cut off jeans.
