Franklinton man shot in the groin
Columbus police responded to a home invasion along Dakota Ave. in Franklinton this morning around 1:15 a.m. When they got to the scene, they found Charles Toppins with gunshot wounds in the abdomen and groin area. Toppins and his wife told investigators that their back door was kicked open and two men with black hooded jackets entered their house. One of the suspects grabbed Toppins’ wife and held a gun to her head. Toppins was shot twice when he went to his wife’s aid, after which the suspects left.
Toppins was taken to Mount Carmel Hospital in serious condition, but is expected to recover.
