Saintseneca hops off the FMMF lineup
The folk-rock local band, Saintseneca, led by mustached Zac Little has taken itself off the docket for Fashion Meets Music Festival. The group is the second to withdraw following Damn the Witch Siren, who withdrew earlier this month, because of the choice to put R. Kelly’s name (and all that goes with it) as the headliner for the festival. R. Kelly’s name is associated with allegations of rape, sexual predation and other sexual crimes. Saintseneca wrote a blog post on why they would not be playing in the festival after all. “We feel it is an affront to all survivors, who are already often overlooked and forgotten in our society. As a result, we’ve decided to withdraw from the festival,” part of the post read. The group also plans to host an alternative concert to benefit survivors of sexual violence and crimes.
Jim DeRogatis who was the key reporter at the Chicago Sun Times when the R. Kelly controversy began, wrote on Columbus’ response to booking R. Kelly for the festival which has been different than when Chicago’s Pitchfork Festival booked the controversial R&B singer.
