We gonna party like it’s the oldest living gorilla’s birthday
Colo, the first gorilla in history to be born into human care (born at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium) is celebrating her milestone 58th birthday today. She has lived 21 years past the median life expectancy for female gorillas living in zoos and is the oldest gorilla on record. To celebrate this momentous day, the zoo is throwing her a birthday party that will also be broadcast live online. Guests can watch the celebration live staring about 2:00 p.m. Prior to the broadcast, a video recounting Colo’s life and her role in gorilla conservation will air.
Colo will unwrap presents of her favorite treats and enjoy and Ohio-shaped birthday cake (made specially for a gorilla’s diet) inside her habitat that has been decorated in colorful party decor. Get out the party hats and raise a toast to our great gorilla Colo.
