The Swedish are coming! The Swedish are coming!

Update: There’s more to look forward to than just the announcement of Ikea coming to Columbus. When it opens in 2017, Ikea says the store will feature about 10,000 items, 50 room settings, three model home interiors, a supervised kid’s play area, and a 450-seat restaurant. And of course, the restaurant will be serving those Swedish meatballs. (deb)

Official word has come. IKEA is on its way to Columbus.  With Mayor Michael Coleman and Delaware County Commission President Gary Merrell looking on from a pair of poang chairs, IKEA’s public affairs manager Joe Roth made the announcement.  The Swedish furniture store chain in planning a location on the lot of the former Germain Amphitheater. Ground breaking is slated for spring of 2016 with the store opening its doors for customers in the summer of 2017.  (jj)

Attention shoppers…IKEA is coming to Columbus.  I’ll wait a moment while IKEA fans read that line again because I know that they will want to savor this moment.

IKEA is expected to announce on Tuesday that they plan to build a new 354,000 square-foot store on Polaris Parkway…specifically on the site of the old Germain Amphitheater. This location will be about 10,000 square-feet larger than the furniture store’s other Ohio location near Cincinnati. Expect the Columbus store to open its doors in the summer of 2017.  (jj)
