It’s turtle time for Dublin art thief

Dublin is developing an unwanted tradition of art theft; for the third year in a row, a piece of the city’s public art has disappeared or been stolen. The Dublin Arts Council reported (on Jan. 6) that the “Big Turtle Riverbox,” an art piece of a large ceramic turtle with a frog on its back, disappeared from Scioto Park. According to the council, it was probably stolen sometime in November or December.

This is the second time the piece has gone missing. It disappeared back in 2008, but was later replaced by the artist. Between the ‘golf ball on a tee’ piece that was taken in 2013 and the ‘tree-climbing’ man sculpture that went missing last year, it might be time for Dublin to invest in CSI: ACU*.
