The Ohio Arts Council has started seeking submissions for the first Ohio Poet Laureate. And when 44 states, plus DC have one, it’s about time we got on the trend. Nomination submissions started this week and will run until May 20th, after which point the Ohio Poet Laureate Committee (made of OAC board members) will review candidates and interview three semi-finalists. They’ll then give their recommendation to Gov. Kasich, who has to officially appoint someone to the position. Once in place, the Ohio Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term (Jan. 1, 2016 – Dec. 31, 2017) and will receive a as-yet-to-be-determined stipend.
Guess it’s time to start practicing my rhyming. Quick! What rhymes with Buckeye Nation? (deb)
