CBJ_NSH01_slideESPN The Magazine is out with its annual list of the Ultimate Standings…a ranking of the top professional franchises in sports. With 122 teams ranked in all, the Columbus Blue Jackets fared pretty well last year coming in at #21. This year, the CBJ did better.

Fans are asked to vote for their favorite teams in various categories and then the magazine ranks those teams from top-to-bottom. Its a reflection of fan perception regarding franchises from the country’s biggest sports. This year, Nick Foligno and company came it at #19.

As the Ohio capital’s lone representative in the big four sports leagues (all due respect to Major League Soccer and the Columbus Crew), the Blue Jackets really matter in a city that revolves around Ohio State football. – ESPN The Magazine

In their analysis, ESPN offers up observations good and bad.

Attendance? Among the worst in the league. But for fans that do go, they get one the best stadium experiences around. The magazine also points out that at an average ticket price of $65.48, Jackets fans are paying the second-lowest ticket price in the NHL.

Playoff hopes? The track record isn’t great, though fans feel a little better about things as we get into this season. Still, the 5th line has lost some confidence in head coach Todd Richards.

In all, coming in at #19 out of 122 is not bad, and its the best ranking of all of Ohio’s professional sports teams.
