Construction brings rerouting of Olentangy Trail
As ODOT continues work on the North Side Mega Fix involving I-270, US Route-23 and State Route-315, many drivers have had to make adjustments to their commutes. And now a number of cyclists are about to be impacted as well.
Beginning August 10th, a portion of the Olentangy Trail will close for a period of 15 months. That’s a long time for many to lose their biking path. But your friendly neighborhood Department of Transportation has thought ahead. They’ve been working with Columbus and Worthington cyclists to try and come up with some sort of accommodation for those affected by the extended closure of the trail. The alternate route for riders will pick up at Clubview Boulevard South returning to the regular trail at Wilson Bridge Road (see image).
ODOT reps acknowledge that while this will help to lessen the inconvenience to many riders, it’s not a perfect solution. They say that the detoured trail will be more for advanced, serious cyclists and not so much for families with moms and dads leading three children behind them. ODOT also says that it’s not a multi-use path, but under the circumstances and with the surrounding features of the area, it is the best option possible. (jj)
