Former Crew player charged with vicious attack on fiancée

Former Columbus Crew player Daniel Paladini has been charged with three counts of domestic violence and three counts of assault against his fiancée. (Paladini was acquired by the club in December 2013.  After playing in a handful of matches, he underwent season-ending surgery in September of last year.)

According to court filings, at his Gahanna home in October of last year, Paladini is accused of grabbing his fiancée’s hair, slamming her face into a door and punching her in the eye with a closed fist.  The following day, as the accusation goes, he poured a bottle of bleach over her head before pushing her against a wall and then kicking her twice in the chest as she lay on the floor.  One day later, according to the story, he grabbed her hair again and dragged her.

When the team notified league officials that police had been called to Paladini’s home on a domestic abuse complaint, he was suspended with pay.  The Crew later declined to pick up his option for 2015.  (jj)
