Longshot bets pays 99 to 1 odds when wrong horse runs and wins
Some people place longshot bets just for the fun of it. Some people place them when they get a feeling. Either way, they usually don’t pan out. In early November, one of those bets did pay off at the Mahoning Valley Race Course in Youngstown.
Ruby Queen was listed as a 99 to 1 shot and ended up beating the field easily…a clear winner. It wasn’t until after the bettors had collected on their wagers that it was realized that another horse had run in Ruby Queen’s place.
An investigation has found that the incident was an accident. A stable worker brought out the wrong horse by mistake…pitting a strong male horse against a field of fillies. Officials have suspended three workers who were involved in the mishap.
