New restrictions drain ‘some’ fun out of Buckeye Lake
Decisions to keep Buckeye Lake at winter water levels are now meaning new regulations. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has put new bans in place on tow-sports activities including skiing and tubing. ODNR says that, despite the restrictions, people should remember that the lake is still open for those looking for fun on the water. They see this is an opportunity to promote activities like kayaking and paddling.
Its also worth noting that a designated speed zone is being set up to provide an area for boaters who want to throw their crafts into gear.
All of these moves are in reaction to recent concern about the structural integrity of Buckeye Lake’s dam. Governor Kasich has ordered that a new dam be put in place. ODNR says that when that happens, “Buckeye Lake will be a gem in the state of Ohio.” (jj)
