Ashley Furniture “celebrates” Buckeye win with $1.5M payout
Ashley Furniture promised Buckeye fans who bought furniture (at least $1,999 worth) a refund if the team won the Championship by seven points. And with a final score of 42-20 (OSU), it looks like the furniture retailer will be paying up it’s $1.5 million worth of refunds. That’s right, the 15-store promotion will see Ashley Furniture HomeStore (and Better Sleep Shops) handing out more than one million dollars worth of refunds to customers.
And if that doesn’t get you a better night’s sleep, I don’t know what will. (deb)

Seven point lead could mean free recliner for 500+ Buckeye fans
Over 500 Buckeye fans could be getting free furniture thanks to a promotion from Ashley Furniture HomeStore and Better Sleep Shops – but only if the team wins by at least seven points. The promotion (which the stores ran from Dec. 17 to Dec. 30) will refund the $1,999+ that customers paid for furniture, mattresses, and home accessories if OSU wins by seven or more points.
Although fans are liking the deal, The Ohio State University isn’t. The university sees the promotions as being, “unfair competition, with elements that play off the good will and reputation of the university in lieu of any formal sponsorship or affiliation.” Ashley furniture didn’t explicitly use the school’s name in its advertisements, referring to it only as “Ohio’s team.”
But with a refund based on a seven point win, I feel pretty confident that lots of Buckeyes are going to be kicking back in some fully refunded recliners later this month. (deb)
