Westerville’s Jason Day returns home with PGA Championship win
Having come close to scoring victories in a handful of recent major tournaments, Jason Day expressed his thoughts on Sunday at getting over the hump of narrow losses with this tweet.

The Westerville resident has appeared close a few times this season to scoring a breakthrough win at a major on the PGA tour. At the U.S. Open in June, he had a share of the lead on the final day of play…before falling into a 9th place finish. Last month at the British Open, he missed by one a stroke a chance to be in a playoff position for the win.
Sunday at the Whistling Straits golf course in Wisconsin, he let nothing slip away.
The 27 year-old native Australian recorded a 3-stroke victory over Jordan Spieth (winner of the 2015 Masters and and U.S. Open tournaments). Overall, Day finished the Championship at 20 under par…a record performance in a PGA major.
Day’s wife Ellie is from the Mansfield area. The couple married in 2009 and settled in Westerville. The Days hosted a charity event at Muirfield last week to benefit five local organizations. If it’s true that what goes around comes around, the recent good works done by Jason Day and his wife certainly came around in the forms of solid play and good karma this past weekend in Wisconsin…in a MAJOR way.
