You’re (still) OUT! Pete Rose reinstatement application is denied

(614) fans of the Cincinnati Reds learned this week that once again Pete Rose was Charlie Brown, the MLB commissioner’s office was Lucy and the possibility of reinstatement was the football.

Commissioner Rob Manfred was considering lifting Rose’s lifetime suspension from the game…something that has been in place since a 1989 investigation found that the Cincinnati Reds player / manager had bet on baseball. Rose agreed to the ban in exchange for an allowance that he could apply for reinstatement after one year. He has been trying to get back into the game ever since.

In issuing his decision, Manfred said that he has great respect for Rose’s on-field accomplishments, but that Pete still doesn’t fully appreciate the grasp of his off-field actions (betting). Manfred also makes clear that Rose’s suspension does not mean that he cannot be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and determination on that is for others to decide.
