Hot Chicken Takeover announces neighborhood tour stops

It’s time for the winning neighborhoods to reap their rewards. Hot Chicken Takeover is coming.

Not so long ago, HCT launched a contest that had people voting on which neighborhoods they should visit this summer. In fact, Hot Chicken Takeover would be making multiple visits to the winning areas. The top finishers were announced last month and now we have a listing and schedule of the tour stops. Note that at each stop, Hot Chicken Takeover will be partnering with a local organization. $1 from each meal purchased and all cash tips will go to that organization. Here’s the tour schedule and related partners:

Gahanna

Partnering with Gahanna Residents in Need (GRIN). Hot Chicken Takeover will be at the Gahanna High School parking lot every other Tuesday beginning June 23rd and running through August 4th. There will be additional stops on August 18th and September 1st at Creekside Plaza.

Clintonville

Partnering with the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center (CRC). Hot Chicken Takeover will be serving in the CRC East parking lot every other Tuesday beginning June 30th and running through August 25th.

Olde Towne East

Partnering with the Near East Side Cooperative Market. Hot Chicken Takeover will be serving in the Oak & Ohio parking lot every other Wednesday beginning July 1st and running through August 26th.

The winners are in! Our friends at Hot Chicken Takeover asked people to vote on which neighborhoods they should hit up on their HCT road tour this summer. More than 6,000 votes were counted and congrats go out to Olde Towne East, Clintonville and Gahanna. According to Takeover, those areas will receive recurring visits this year. They also hope to make pop-up stops in runner-up neighborhoods including Westerville/Lewis Center, Merion/German Village, Bexley, Grandview/UA and Westgate.

Congrats to the winners. Consider me jealous!  (jj)

You’re getting warmer…

Hot Chicken Takeover is taking their show (and chicken) on the road. But where are they going? Well, that’s up to you, Columbus! A few weeks ago, HCT announced that they’re holding a contest to determine where they’ll setup their mobile food truck this summer. And with 4,500 votes already, the competition is heating up. Top picks are Gahanna, Clintonville, Dublin, Bexley, and a few other surrounding areas.

But if your locale isn’t getting some love, there’s still time to vote. Voting doesn’t close until this Friday (May 8). So clucking vote already! (deb)

Some clucking good news from HCT

Hot Chicken Takeover teased us last week and after keeping us on the edge of our chicken-loving seats, we finally know what the cluck it was all about. HCT is going on a neighborhood tour this summer. And they want EVERYONE to help them decide where they should go. Starting in June, HCT will roll out its mobile restaurant throughout central Columbus – kicking off the tour in Olde Towne East. But from there, it’s up to you! You can vote for where you want them to go by filling out a survey: bit.ly/1HIAy8n.

Voting started today and goes until May 8th, with tour dates/stops announced by June 1st. (deb)

And if the idea of HCT wasn’t enough to entice you, how about…

  • $1 of every meal sold will go to a neighborhood organization
    • they’re accepting recommendations in the survery
  • You’ll be able to get HCT Tuesday & Wednesday evenings throughout the summer
  • Block Party on Wheels! HCT will bring tents, tables, and their NEW food truck

Tuttle Mall getting a lot sweeter thanks to 2 newcomers

Malls have changed a lot over the years. Remember Waldenbooks? Was KB Toys your go-to as a kid? Heck, even Sears will soon be nothing more than a memory.

While mall establishments are frequently lost to the sands of time, it’s rare that you see a former retailer return to a mall it’s already vacated once. Well brace yourselves, sweets fans, because a gooey, sugar-frosted favorite is making a comeback at Tuttle Mall.

Of course we’re talking Cinnabon, which was last in operation at Tuttle some years ago, and is now listed as “coming soon” on the mall’s directory. But wait! As tempting as it will be to fill up on cinnamon rolls after this long absence, you’ll want to save room for this other coming attraction: it seems Duck Donuts is also setting up shop in Tuttle.

Hop on the treadmill and give your dentist a heads-up, mall lovers—sweets are back at Tuttle in a big way!

Columbus native and mayor of Flavortown Guy Fieri has always had a soft spot for his hometown, especially its BBQ. He’s been around the country to enjoy some of the best food America has to offer for his show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, but it’s right here in Columbus where some of the meats are being smoked: Ray Ray’s Hog Pit.

The Food Network recently posted a list of Fieri’s top barbecue picks from DDD including James Anderson’s smokin’ hot food truck.

Guy Fieri just named us to his “Best BBQ from DDD” list. Thanks for the massive honor Guy, come back and see us anytime. http://bit.ly/DDDBestBBQ

Ray Ray’s was originally featured on the “College Town Champs” episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in 2017.
