Bar Rescue host (and presidential candidates) in Columbus this weekend

barFive Republican presidential candidates are descending on Columbus today with the start of the two-day ‘Defending the American Dream Summit.’ Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal will be among those addressing the event put on by billionaire GOP backers David and Charles Koch.  The event at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, according to the summit’s website, will offer “thousands of defenders of freedom (the chance) to come together to learn, be inspired, and celebrate our liberty.”

Also in town this weekend is Jon Taffer, the host of Spike TV’s Bar Rescue. Taffer is likewise scheduled to address the convention. (Perhaps he’ll suggest that a name change and a fresh coat of paint is just the thing to get America back on the right track!)

While in town, many of the candidates will be finding opportunities outside the summit to meet with prospective voters. And Taffer will be double-dipping with his time in the Buckeye state as well. The Akron Beacon Journal reports that the TV host is filming an episode at a place called Ripper’s Rock House…a bar / restaurant in Rubber City. Owner Tim Owens (former lead singer for the band Judas Priest) says that his bar’s relaunch is set for Saturday night.  (jj)
