Let’s go for a ride with Al Capone(‘s car)

Cbusrs are about to get a little bit of the mob-mentality later this month when Grove City’s George Holinga shows off his best purchase at car show: Al Capone’s last car – a 1947 Packard Custom Super 8 Sedan.

On March 15, Holinga will talk about the car’s history and how he got it from Capone’s personal chauffeur Herman David, aka “Motorcycle Mike,” at a meeting of the Buckeye Packard Club, the Lancaster Car Club, and the Mid-Ohio Chevrolet Club. The event, which takes place at the new Grove City Byers Chevrolet (5887 N. Meadows Dr.) will be open to the public. Currently, the car is on loan to a museum in Dayton. (deb)

(Some) interesting facts about the car:

  • Not many miles are on the car
    • it spent alot of time in Motorcycle Mike’s basement while he was in prison
  • A “persuader” rod with dried blood on it was found under the front seat
    • “They used that to break kneecaps or skulls,” said Holinga
  • Interior has custom silk seat covers and door panels
