Joe’s Crab Shack expands no-tipping policy to Columbus

shutterstock_172438112Servers at Joe’s Crab Shack no longer need to worry about the dreaded low-tippers and no-tippers. The national restaurant chain is banning the practice of tipping altogether.

The company is ending the traditional concept of a low hourly wage + tips for its waitstaff. Joe’s is raising the starting wage for servers to $14 per hour. To make up the difference, the chain is also raising menu prices by 12 to 15%. The move, they say, is to provide financial stability for employees and is designed to benefit both servers and customers.

The Daily News reports that Joe’s Crab Shack has been testing the concept at 18 locations since August. The chain operates a Central Ohio location at 3720 West Dublin Granville Road. They tell me that the new wages and new prices are already in effect. (jj)
