Wendy’s cooks up some menu additions

wendys-black-bean-menu-600xx2925-4388-0-0Vegetarians and healthy food lovers are getting a treat from Wendy’s. The fast food chain has been testing out a black bean veggie burger in Central Ohio at two locations (5505 W. Broad Street and 739 Bethel Road). The burger is served on a multigrain bun with asiago ranch sauce, Colby-pepper jack cheese, tomato, and a spring mix; all for just $4.50.

As of right now, the veggie burger isn’t a permanent part of the menu. But if Jackass’ Steve-O has a say, it will be. The “actor” created a Change.org petition asking Wendy’s to put the burger on the menu. He says:

“So many people across America value access to healthy, easy-to-find options when dining out. Offering a veggie burger for health-conscious folks concerned about obesity, heart disease, and other health problems is also great because it would allow vegetarians and vegans to eat with their friends and families.”

The petition needs 35,000 signatures and is pretty close to its goal: it has 32,414 as of today.

Honest Tea will make an exclusive Tropical Green Tea for Wendy’s – which will be its first certified organic beverage. The tea is made from fair trade certified organic green tea with mango and pineapple flavors and fair trade certified organic cane sugar. (deb)
