Wendy’s goes all Spike Lee, tells suppliers to ‘do the right thing’
Wendy’s has issued a suggested code-of-conduct for its suppliers. This is a set of practices that the chain says will encourage companies that they work with to demonstrate a set of values and practices in line with Wendy’s. This is the first time that the fast food chain has issued such a thing, so its worth an examination.
Wendy’s says that their core value is to ‘do the right thing.’ And they hope that those that they’re associated with will do the same. The code-of-conduct addresses issues like food safety and food ingredients, farm animal health and well-being, human rights and labor practices, environmentally sustainable business practices and business ethics and integrity.
Among the highlights is Wendy’s encouragements to eliminate gestation stalls for pigs by the year 2022. Many farmers have voiced an opposing view on this and the issue earned coverage last year from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. (jj)
