Columbus City Council tonight is expected to infuse $800,000 into a preschool program created by Mayor Mike Coleman. Roughly $3.4 million was budgeted for the program last year, enough to fund 350 4-years olds to take part. Area pre-schools serving low-income families can apply for grant money through the initiative. The program’s goal is to increase the number of children reading at proper levels by third grade.
City Council is scheduled to vote on the funding on Monday. (jj)
