Better brush up on that cursive

Cursive, that thing we all learned in school and never used again, might be law. A new bill was introduced earlier this week that would make it mandatory to teach cursive in elementary school. Under House Bill 146, students K-5 will have to be able to write legibly in both print and cursive by the end of fifth grade.

The push for it comes from a sense of nostalgia and the claim that learning cursive “makes better writers.” But in an age of screens and typing, how necessary is cursive? (deb)
