*UPDATE* Ragland pleads his case to remain in race for mayor
At a Tuesday meeting of the Franklin County Board of Elections, would-be Democratic candidate for Columbus mayor James Ragland pled his case. Ragland’s eligibility for the primary ballot was thrown into doubt when it was discovered that a member of his nominating committee does not live in the city of Columbus. That’s a no-no. However, a unanimous decision by the board in his favor means that Ragland’s name will be certified for the ballot. The mayoral primary is set for May 5th. (jj)

Down to three candidates in race for mayor?
It looks like a problem with petition signatures could deal a fatal blow to the mayoral candidacy of Democrat James Ragland. According to state law and city charter, a five-person nominating committee must sign the petitions of the candidate in their effort to qualify for the ballot. All members of that committee must live in the city of Columbus. One of Ragland’s nominating committee members does not.
The Franklin County Board of Elections has told Ragland that the situation likely represents a “fatal flaw” to his campaign. The board will meet to certify candidate qualifications next week and will deal with the Ragland issue at that time. (jj)
