Governor John Kasich on Tuesday night signed a new two-year $71.2 billion budget for the state of Ohio. Among the more notable items included in the plan:
- 6.3% state income tax reduction
- state tax elimination for businesses earning less than $250,000
- tuition freeze for state-supported 2- and 4-year schools
- enhanced Medicaid health plans
- increased services for those with disabilities
- 35 cent tax hike on packs of cigarettes
Not everyone was overjoyed with the budget. For example, a group of women from Toledo showed up at the signing to protest budget provisions that would help to close abortion clinics in Ohio. (jj)
