Hillary gets a challenger
“I am running for President of the United States because America needs a political revolution.”
-Tweet from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders
….and with that, the race has been joined. Bernie Sanders, the 73 year-old self-described democratic socialist, declared his candidacy on Thursday for the Democratic presidential nomination. He becomes the first official challenger to former Secretary of State (and perceived front-runner) Hillary Clinton. Sanders who typically runs for office as an Independent and then caucuses in the U.S. Senate with Democrats, says that he is running through the party primary system because he views it as an easier path for him to a spot on the general election ballot. He says he knows that he won’t be able to match Clinton’s campaign war chest dollar-for-dollar, but that he’s confident that he can raise enough money to wage a credible campaign for the White House.
