The Ohio Department of Education has announced a pretty key change in Governor John Kasich’s new $10 million faith-based initiative. Its now faith-optional. A new student-mentorship program had required that schools partner with religious organizations in applying for grant money from the program. The ACLU and others have complained that requiring such connections between schools and religious group is unconstitutional. In response, the department has now broadened the definition of ‘faith-based’ to include non-religious groups that promote to children the ideas of hard work, discipline and personal responsibility.
