Starting today (3/23), a new change to state law will allow Ohio drivers to show proof of insurance or financial responsibility to law enforcement through electronic means. Basically, instead of having to pull your crumpled State Farm card out of the back of your wallet, you can simply bring your electronic card up on your smartphone, tablet or other device and show it to the friendly officer.

*Side note…I did this recently, so the notion that this isn’t already the law is news to me. Officials says that many law enforcement agencies have been accepting electronic forms of proof of insurance already, so that explains what happened in my situation. Drivers will still be able to show proof of financial responsibility with the old paper cards, so let your grandma know that she’ll be alright.  (jj)
