Ohio House approves “Heartbeat Bill”

The anti-abortion bill known as the “Heartbeat Bill” passed in the House. Under House Bill 69, abortions would be banned after a fetal heartbeat can be detected (which can be as early as six weeks). This bill has been making the rounds in the Ohio legislature for a few years, however it generally fails to either pass in House or the Senate after being introduced. The bill will now move into the Senate for hearings, but given Senate leaders’ opposition to the bill, and Gov. Kasich’s approach, it’s unlikely that the bill will move forward. (deb)
