Red light, green light, lawsuit

Starting today, Ohio’s new law banning red light cameras goes into effect. But it seems like not everyone is thrilled about it. Several cities (like Akron, Dayton, Toledo, and Springfield) have filed lawsuits against the state; and Columbus is the latest to be added to that list. The lawsuit, filed Friday in Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, attests that the law (Senate Bille 342) “fails to articulate any public safety purpose and serves only to tie the hands of Columbus and other local authorities seeking to use this technology to reduce the frequency of crashes at intersections.” The city wants an injunction to prevent the law from (fully) going into effect until the lawsuit is resolved.
