Sales tax holiday begins Friday

Ohio’s sales tax holiday begins this Friday. Legislators enacted the event in an effort to help make back-to-school expenses more affordable for parents. So if you have children, this is great news. If you don’t have children, you can still get in on the savings as well. Here’s what you need to know.

The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01am Friday 8/7 and ends at 11:59pm on Sunday 8/9. So you have three days to save some dough. School supplies and instructional materials priced $20 or less will be exempt from sales tax. Clothing priced at $75 and under will also be exempt. These aren’t collective totals. By that, I mean that you can purchase 100 pairs of pants at $73 each if you want, and you won’t pay sales tax on any of them. This includes clothes for children AND adults. Layaway and online purchases are also included in the ‘holiday.’

Retailers are expecting increased levels of shoppers this weekend. You’re not going to see ‘day after Thanksgiving’-type lines, but you may notice larger crowds than usual.  (jj)
