Same-sex knot tying in the (614)
The U.S. Supreme Court could release its ruling on same-sex marriage at any time. (The court is currently considering whether or not states have the right to ban those marriages.) If the justices rule those bans are unconstitutional, expect thousands of couples in states like Ohio to race to government offices to get marriage licenses. In Franklin County, officials have already decided how to handle those wanting to get married…and what the paperwork will look like.
Regular office hours at the probate court are 8am to 4:30pm. Those hours will not change, but people who are in line at 4:30 will be served that day. (They won’t just be sent home.) As for the paperwork, marriage applications that currently have lines for “Bride” and “Groom” will be changed to “Applicant 1” and “Applicant 2.” (jj)
