Several clothing retailers, including two Ohio-based companies are being investigated by New York’s Attorney General. His office sent letters to the companies, including L Brands and Abercrombie & Fitch, regarding their on-shift call policy. The policy, he says, gives hourly wage workers little (to almost no) notice on when they’ll be working, and causes financial problems; on-call employees aren’t paid if they’re called off work. New York is one of eight states that requires companies to pay employees for (at least) 4hrs of work when they’re on-call. Ohio doesn’t have any such law. L Brands and A&F haven’t commented on the letter. (deb)
