Whitehall City Council selling seats!

Whitehall City Council selling seats!

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. That’s the latest lesson in politics for members for the Whitehall City Council. Following a major overhaul of the council’s chambers last year, leaders were prepping to get rid of some of the junk left behind…including old furniture. But when it came to the actual chairs themselves, that’s when one voice spoke out. Gail Martineau, the city spokeperson, pointed out that the chairs that were about to be tossed were not junk at all and, in fact, they actually were of some considerable value. The chairs in question were Henry Miller Eames fiberglass shell chairs. (If you’re like me, that means absolutely nothing to you, but apparently there are collectors.)

The city began listing the chairs on eBay and have so far brought in roughly $5,000. Not bad for a bunch of ‘junk’ that was headed for the landfill.  (jj)
