Assault charge turns to murder after death of stabbing victim

A 21-year-old man (John Barnett) found stabbed in the chest on Wednesday near Franklin Heights High School on the city’s West Side died from his wounds over the weekend. The suspect, 20-year-old Nicholas Kean, had turned himself in on Thursday and was facing a felonious assault charge. With Barnett’s passing on Saturday, that has now been upgraded to a murder charge.
