Bill Cosby charged in sexual assault case, arraignment today
A lot of people are going to be talking about it today….the felony assault case against actor / comedian / pop icon Bill Cosby.
After years of allegations by many, many, many women that Cosby sexually assaulted or raped them…with the statute of limitations having runs out on most of those cases…officials in Pennsylvania’s Montgomery County filed a charge of aggravated indecent assault today against the comedian. It’s a felony case and if convicted, the 78-year-old could spend the rest of his life in prison.
The charge comes just days before the statute of limitations would have run out in this case…with a former Temple University employee claiming that Cosby drugged and violated her at his Philadelphia mansion in 2004. (Ten years ago, a previous district attorney declined to press charges in the matter.)
Cosby is expected to be arraigned today.
For me, I’ve always been a fan of Bill Cosby. When I was a kid, I watched his Picture Pages bits as part of the kids show Captain Kangaroo. And then there was Fat Albert…and then The Cosby Show. Several years ago, I was in Cincinnati on my birthday as the Reds and Major League Baseball honored Cosby, Hank Aaron and Muhammad Ali as part of a civil rights tribute. A couple of years ago, I caught Cosby’s stand-up act LIVE for the first time in Las Vegas. Even at his advanced age, the man was hilarious and on top of his game.
To think that this guy could have done the things that he’s accused of is a terrible thought. To think that he might have done it and gotten away with it is even worse. And now, it appears, the justice system will have its say.
What are your thoughts?
