6.400 fish dead in Newark creek

shutterstock_184256462The Columbus Dispatch reports that 6,400 fish died as a result of a hazardous materials spill into Licking County’s Raccoon Creek. The figures come from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife.

The November 3rd crash of a semi carrying sulfuric and phosphoric acids resulted in some of those chemicals (and diesel fuel) making their way into the water. The driver is now charged with failing to control his vehicle.

The location where the accident occurred is a noted trouble spot having seen multiple crashes in recent years.  (jj)
