Bell-ringing effort coming up short for Salvation Army

The Central Ohio branch of the Salvation Army had set a $700,000 fundraising goal for 2015. But with only a handful of days left in the year, the group is finding itself about $200,000 short. Salvation Army says that there are a few reasons to explain the shortfall.

A condensed calendar has meant fewer days in the traditional holiday shopping season and fewer opportunities to get in front of shoppers. Also, with more traveling this year, they say that many volunteer slots have gone unfilled.

They also point to fewer and fewer people carrying cash to throw into the group’s red kettles.
