*UPDATE* Man charged in death of 14-month old

A Columbus man has been indicted in the death of 14-month old Maryland boy Cameron Beckford. Beckford’s mother (Dainesha Stevens) reported her son missing in Columbus at Christmastime, with the boy’s body found in a bag near Big Walnut Creek one week later. Last week, she entered a guilty plea to charges of involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering in exchange for her testimony against 24 year-old Kurt Flood.  Flood’s charges in connection with the death of the boy include one count of murder, one count of felonious assault, one count of child endangering, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of gross abuse of a corpse.  (jj)

Mom pleads guilty in death of one year-old son

Dainesha Stevens entered a guilty plea on Friday in connection to the death of her 14-month old son Cameron Beckford. Cameron was reported missing at Christmastime. His body was found in a bookbag near Big Walnut Creek a week later. Stevens agree to plead guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering; in exchange, she get a 12-year prison sentence.  (jj)

UPDATE: Search crews have found what they believe is the body of 14-month-old Cameron Beckford in Big Walnut Creek.

Beckford’s mother, Dainesha Stevens, was charged with child endangering, and tampering with evidence. She appeared in court this morning with bond was set at $75,000 for each charge. He was abandoned by his mother at a home near Brice Road and Livingston Ave. (on Dec. 26) and investigators reported that Stevens said she could not care for Beckford, and left him on a stranger’s front porch in a housing development.

Mother charged in case of her missing 14-month old

Dainesha Stevens will be arraigned today on child endangering and tampering with evidence charges as the search continues for her missing 14-month old son. Stevens admitted to police that she abandoned Cameron Beckford (her son) at a home in east Columbus last Friday because she couldn’t care for him.

Yesterday, Columbus police changed the search to a recovery mission and dive teams searched part of Big Walnut Creek off Livingston Ave., but didn’t find anything.

Columbus Police say that the search for Cameron Beckford has now changed to a recovery mission.  Cameron’s mother will likely be charged with tampering with evidence and felonious assault.

Police continue search for missing 14-month old boy

Columbus Police are continuing their search for missing 14-month old Cameron Beckford.  Beckford is described as a black male, average height for his age, approximately 23 pounds, black hair with brown eyes.  His mother is now in custody…having admitted that she abandoned the child on a stranger’s porch in east Columbus on December 26th.  Cameron was reportedly left in the area of Brice and Livingston.  Officers have begun searching a creek near the Far East Rec Center.  (jj)
