A technical issue with the city’s parking meters forced drivers paying with a credit card to purchase at least two hours worth of time…whether they wanted it or not. Officials say that the issue was brought to their attention on Wednesday and they worked quickly to correct it. The issue stemmed from a miscommunication between the meters and the central computer system. Rick Tilton from the Columbus Department of Public Service tells us that this is just the sort of thing that happens from time to time when you’re dealing with parking meters…devices that sit outside 24 / 7 and are subjected to all of the elements.
The problem was corrected on Thursday. There is no way to determine how many people were affected by the issue.
