Doors are officially closed on CML Main

Hope you remembered to return those library books. Because as of today at 5PM, the Main Branch of CML will be closed until Aug. 2016, as they undergo a MAJOR renovation. When the 18-month, $30 million project is done, the library will have a three-story open space with floor-to-ceiling windows, views of the topiary park, and a plaza. And since we all now how construction schedules go, let’s hope this thing stays on track. Especially it seems like CML is gearing up to have its facelift done by the time it’s set to host the 2016 World Library and Information Congress. (deb)

Shhh! Library construction under way

It look like you’ll have to return (and pay your late fees) somewhere else. CML has announced that the Main Branch will shut down, starting April 12th, in preparation for its major renovation. Starting on that Sunday, the branch will suspend services and likely be closed until Aug. 2016, according to the Board of Trustees.Damn, now where am I gonna go to pick-up my reserve copy of Fifty Shades of Grey? I mean … A Tale of Two Cities. Yeah, I’m totally reading Dickens, and NOT E.L. James…(deb)

Bust out the packing tape! It’s moving day for CML

Big changes are underway at Columbus Metropolitan’s main branch. The library is starting its 18-month, $30 million renovation project. And the first order of business: packing! Starting today, anyone venturing into the library will be greeted by “We’re Packing” signs, as employees empty bookshelves and put up caution tape in the soon-to-be construction zone. There’s even a video screen at the checkout desk counting down the days, hours, until the renovation starts.

Construction officially starts on Feb. 25, and will entail closing off the third floor and moving about 80 percent of the building’s materials into storage. But when the project finishes in August, the library will boast a three-story open space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Topiary Park and a new walk-out plaza.

And don’t worry, even though a large portion of the books are being moved, you’ll still be able to reserve and checkout that copy of Gone Girl you told you’re book club you read over the holidays. (deb)
